What is exactly is this ride and why?

I am planning on leaving on May 14th from Jamestown, CA and taking 6 days to travel the 3000+ miles. Along the way, I am planning to only sleep at VFW's...with my sleeping bag, tent and MRE's...because that is how we roll in the military!! I just finished medical school and unemployed...so, what better time to raise awareness of the closeness that our country once had and the reasons for why we enjoy this free country. There will also be a pair of empty military boots on my back seat...this is in memory of the hereos that aren't able to be able to enjoy my family and country. Yes, I myself am a wounded warrior and this ride will be a little challenging, but remember the old saying...there is always someone worse off than you!! All wanting to, may contact me through this blog and I will try to respond back ASAP. This is not about one man...but instead the strength and courage of all involved....living and deceased. A busy day

Today was a busy day connecting with others to make this trip happen as smoothly as possible.  Out of today's lessons maybe I have learned why I am doing this for me... for everytime I have been given a challenge, I always faced it head on.  Over the past years, I have seemed to become soft...think about doing something for a greater cause, but letting the idea pass.  Well, in 4 weeks that, with God's help, I will be able to hopefully give not only a idea to everyone that you can make a difference and that good things happen with a simple idea...we must just be willing to have faith, courage and in my case...a beautiful wife with her foot implated in my....well, you have the idea.  This ride for me, is not just about Iraq, it also is a way of dealing with the losses my wife and I have experienced and the fight for life that my son has gone through.  We all have pain, grief, worries, concerns...but, what will we do, curl up in our "fox-holes" or get up, brush ourselves off and say "yes, yes I can do this"
